Chief Government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga says Government has listened to concerns from the labour movement over the issue.
Ms. Mulenga said Zambia has a good record of mining and has a pool of trained artisans and engineers in various mining fields having been a copper producing country for many years.
Ms. Mulenga, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Zambia has well trained mining experts hence the need for mining houses to employ competent and qualified Zambians.
She said the local training institutions have been churning out well trained graduates adding that there is no reason for mines to tap into the foreign labour market.
The Minister said concerns by President Edgar Lungu when he addressed parliament on Friday regarding the influx of foreigners who have been employed in mines is a serious matter.
Ms. Mulenga said this in Kitwe when she addressed members of the pastor’s fellowship.
