EXPLORATION AND MAPPING KEY IN MINING SECTOR

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Hon. Paul C Kabuswe, MP, has appealed to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to supplement Zambia’s already existing programmes aimed at fully exploring and mapping of its mineral wealth.

Mr. Kabuswe says, when this is done, the Country will fully benefit as well as boost Zambia’s economic development.

He says, Zambia is not fully explored and this has led to an increase in illegal mining activities across the Country which the Ministry is curbing.

The Minister said this when UNDP Resident Representative Lionel Laurens paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Lusaka.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Laurens assured the Minister of the UNDP support, highlighting existing support to the atisanal miners through innovation.

He added that training for small scale and atisanal miners has been scaled up across the Country.
