National Three(3) Million Tones Copper Production Strategy By 2031

The Government of the Republic of Zambia through the
Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development has
developed the National Three (3) Million Metric Tonnes
Copper Production Strategy to contribute to the
acceleration and maximization of benets for the people
of Zambia from the exploitation of copper in the country.
In this regard, the National Three (3) Million Metric
Tonnes Copper Production Strategy has been developed
to among others, stimulate investment in mineral resource exploration, mining, processing and supply
of goods and services. The undertaking of a countrywide high-resolution aerial geophysical surveys,
will contribute to enhanced geological information that has been limiting the mineral resource
potential and ultimately ramp up copper production from the current production average of about
800,000 metric tons of copper production annually to three (3) million metric tons of copper
production annually by the year 2031.
In addition, the strategy has been developed on the premise of the various emerging global
opportunities such as green energy transition from fossil-based fuel and copper is a critical input
material. The implementation of the strategy will bring about growth and in turn lead to higher
revenue, foreign exchange earnings and job creation. This will be achieved through effective
monitoring and evaluation of the strategy.
