Government says it has realized a sum of US$ 11 billion from the mining sector in the last three and a half years of the new dawn administration in power.
And the government says artisanal miners have so far contributed 45,000 metric tonnes of copper from over 700 licenses it issued to small-scale artisan miners.
Mines and Minerals Development Minister Hon. Paul C. Kabuswe disclosed that this is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s call to revamp the mining sector.
The Minister said this in Lusaka today when he witnessed the $100 million US dollar joint venture signing ceremony between the US-based Metalex Commodities and the Zambian-owned Terra Metals limited mining firm.
The two mining giants will be producing copper and cobalt to benefit over 3,000 local people in senior chief Sailunga and Chief Ntambu of Mwinilunga district, respectively.
