The role and function of the Department of Planning and Information are to ensure that mandate, objectives and policies of the Ministry are maintained in a coordinated and effective manner across all departments. In addition, the Department reviews Ministerial policies and regulations so as to reflect the demands of all stakeholders in the mining sector. The Department is organized into two Units namely: Database and Information Unit and Mining Planning Unit.
Database and Information Unit
The Unit is responsible for the overall management of Information Systems in the Ministry and further works hand in hand with the Centre of Excellence for E-Government on Information Communications Technologies (CEEGICT) for coordination of all government shared services.
Mining Planning Unit
The Unit is responsible for ensuring a vibrant and well organized public-private partnership led mining sector through provision and review of mining policies and regulation that lead to reliable employment and wealth creation in the country.
