The Department of Planning and Information has the mandate to coordinate, formulate and review ministerial policies, strategies, and legislation in order to provide a framework for the effective implementation of programs and projects. In addition, the Department coordinates the preparation and monitoring implementation of the Ministry’s programs, Work plans and Annual Budgets. Further, the department acts as the Ministry’s liaison office for Parliamentary and Cabinet Business.
The Department performs the following specific functions:
- Coordinate the preparation of Ministerial workplans and annual budgets and undertake budget tracking in order to ensure effective utilisation of resources;
- Coordinate the formulation and review of sector policies and legislation in order to provide a framework for effective implementation of Ministerial programmes and projects;
- Coordinate collaboration with local, bilateral, regional and multi-lateral organisations in order to ensure adherence to local, bilateral, regional and multilateral policy and legal frameworks;
- Mainstream Gender, Climate Change, HIV/AIDS, Nutrition and other cross cutting issues in sector policies and programmes in order to ensure inclusivity for the Ministerial programmes;
- Coordinate planning, implementation and review of the Ministry Strategic and other sector plans in order to track performance;
- Coordinate preparation of project proposals, research and development, feasibility studies and project financing in order to mobilise technical and financial resources;
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of Ministerial programmes and projects in order to support evidence-based planning and
- Coordinate development cooperation and ensure alignment of sector policies and legislation framework related to mining and petroleum with local, regional and global development.
The Department is headed by a Director and is assisted by one (1) Chief Planner. The Department comprise of two (2) Sections as follows:
- Planning and Budgeting section
- Monitoring and Evaluation.
