The Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka concluded yesterday with a strong government directive to implement the statutory instrument on local content.
The Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon.Paul Kabuswe, stated that the government’s goal is to ensure that local contractors and suppliers participate in the mining sector by up to 40 percent.
Mr. Kabuswe stressed that mine suppliers must build their capacity to meet the demands of the mining firms.
He described the decision to sign the statutory instrument on local content as an act of courage, noting that previous administrations had failed to enact legislation to empower local businesses.
Furthermore, the Minister reminded participants to implement the resolutions made at the Insaka and to track the progress achieved following the event.
