Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Hon. Paul C. Kabuswe MP, says Government, in collaboration with other stakeholders, remains committed to ensuring that the Country is fully Mapped.
Mr. Kabuswe says, currently only about 49 percent is mapped which is a challenge that has continued to escalate illegal mining activities across the Country.
He adds that once the Country is fully mapped, critical geological data will help Government to curb illegal mining and help Government to identify minerals it is currently sitting on.
Mr. Kabuswe further added that Government appreciates the collaboration between EU and Zambia.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to addressing various challenges facing the mining sector despite challenges.
The Minister said this in Lusaka today when a delegation from the European Union led by class adviser Henrik Hololei paid a courtesy call on him.
And Mr. Hololei says, the cooperation between Zambia and European Union on critical raw minerals is set to benefit the Country.
He says, the Finnish Geological Survey Department is already working with officers from the Ministry of Mines to ensure that the Ariel Surveys the Country has embarked on are a success.
Mr. Hololei added that he is optimistic that the Aerial Surveys will also enhance skills transfer, technological change and stability for future generations.
On 16th May, 2024 the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development signed a contract with Xcalibur for the provision of Countrywide airborne geological services ( Geological Mapping) in Zambia.
