ABOUT INSAKA

Our Aim

The Insaka will provide a definitive platform for key stakeholders such as mining houses, civil society organizations, traditional leaders and Government to engage and deliberate on pertinent matters affecting the mining sector with a view to finding amicable solutions to the challenges. The Insaka will also enable participants to network, exchange ideas, share information on mining related issues which are ultimately expected to culminate into the development of partnerships among Government, local and foreign entities expected to attend the Insaka. Furthermore, it will serve as a fund-raising venture to support the National Geological Mapping Programme Government is implementing through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development in line with the Eighth National Development Plan.

Background of Mining in Zambia

Zambia has a long mining history dating back to the 1920s. The country is regionally and internationally recognized as one of the largest producers of copper and emeralds in the world. However, copper production has been fluctuating over the years between 700,000 metric tonnes to 800,000 metric tonnes. On the other hand, international price of copper and other base metals have similarly been fluctuating in a cyclical fashion. Increasing copper production and other base metals requires significant investment in geological data.
